McChord Air Force Base, Wash., is home to the C-17 Globemaster III-- the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force. More than 6,000 McChord Airmen ensure the 43 assigned C-17s meet the daily demands to deliver global airlift, focused logistics, and agile combat support for America.
Last year, our aircrews flew more than 16,000 missions in support of operations on every continent, achieving the milestone of flying Air Mobility Command's one millionth sortie since 9/11. McChord's Airmen are just as busy as the airplanes they support; on average more than 600 Airmen are deployed at any given moment in support of the Global War on Terror.
Delivering relief to people devastated by natural disasters through humanitarian missions is also a revered mission for McChord Airmen; our crews flew desperately-needed supplies to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina as well as the 2005 Pacific tsunami. We also provided direct aid to the Afghan people shortly after the conflict began, airdropping between 34,000 and 70,000 meals nightly to aid the insolvent populace.
Our global reach extends to Antarctica; as the sole providers of C-17 support to re-supply the McMurdo Scientific Research Station, we deliver supplies to the planet's harshest environment on a regular basis.
McChord Airmen proudly serve in whatever purpose their nation asks of them, supporting America's needs at home and abroad.
